Spring has sprung and so have the Skåne rapeseed fields. A beautiful blanket of yellow colour covers the south of Sweden as far as the eye can see and it’s a treat to the eye like no other! It took me exactly 6 years to time my visit to Skåne to the blooming of the rapeseed fields, but once we arrived there was no stopping my camera shutter. We stopped at a few different fields and finally found many that were perfectly picturesque. So where and when is the best time to visit south Sweden to see the Skåne rapeseed fields? Read all about it below!
About Skåne
Skåne is a province in the south of Sweden and Malmö is the biggest city. The area is, among other things, known for its vast fields, forests, castles, churches, and its famous Öresund bridge connecting Malmö and Copenhagen. Skåne is my favorite Swedish province and it’s also a place where we will settle down in the future (we currently live 3 hours north in Gothenburg).
The best time to visit Skåne is from May to September and there is something to do in Skåne for anyone. Spring is the best time to see Skåne in full bloom, summer is for Midsummer parties and swimming at one of many sandy beaches. Late summer is for the crayfish parties and for being wrapped in a cozy blanket while grilling by the lake. In this post, we’ll focus on spring and the beautiful Skåne rapeseed fields.

Skåne Rapeseed Fields – When to Visit
The rapeseed fields in Skåne are usually in full bloom in early to mid-May. The blooming depends heavily on the winter and if the winter is mild, the blooming will start earlier. In 2020 the fields bloomed earlier than ever before and covered Skåne in yellow already in mid-April.
If you have the chance to ask a local before you make the trip to south Sweden, then do so just to be sure. If not, then you are almost definitely going to see the rapeseed fields blooming in early May.
Important to know on your visit
The fields are privately owned and are meant for agriculture. This means that you will need the landowner to allow you to wander in their fields. If they do allow you, then walk on the tractor tracks instead of the middle of the field. Be respectful of the way you visit and don’t drive into the fields (yes, some people really do that) or take your horse in them (yes some people even do that).

The best way to capture a photo without the tractor tracks being visible is to lower the camera a little and have your tripod, or whoever is taking your photo) on the road or another tractor track. That way it will look like you are in the middle of the field instead of the tracks!

Where to See the Rapeseed Fields – Exact Locations
As I mentioned earlier, you will have absolutely no problems finding a rapeseed field in Skåne. Once they start blooming you’ll find it hard NOT to see them! But just to put your mind at ease, I’ll show you exactly where we took these images using a map below. I included a few locations here in the map below to help you better find a few of them.

My favorite was rapeseed field 2, because it had a small hill which made all the houses behind disappear and create a lovely blue and yellow line.
The field locations are approximate. Bear in mind that rapeseed is never planted in the same place twice (or more) years in a row. The fields that are marked in the map might not be rapeseed when you arrive there, but there are plenty in south Sweden and you will definitely spot some nearby the marked ones.

Hi. Do you know if next weekend will be a good time to visit?
I saw this a bit too late – did you manage to see some nice yellow fields?
Hi. Do you know if next weekend will be a good time to visit?
Hi! It’s been too warm in South Sweden so they are already gone, unfortunately.
Can I visit the fields now? Is the blooming still on going?
Hey! No, in July they don’t bloom anymore, unfortunately.
Are they blooming this weekend? We are planning on Sunday 22 nd. If yes please share the locations.
Hey! Yes, they are in full bloom right now 🙂 You will see them all over south Sweden. There is a map for a handful of them right here in the article!
How about this weekend ? May 22. Are they still blooming ?
Hi Brahmaji! Yes, this weekend you will still see them blooming all over Skåne 🙂
Your photos are definitely Instagram worthy! I wasn’t aware Sweden had rapeseed fields. In the Scottish Borders, right where I used to live, around Kelso there are also many rapeseed fields, so your post brought back fond memories 🙂
I’m very happy to hear that Tracy and thank you very much!
Looks like you had a wonderful time in the fields there and the pictures are oh so gorgeous!
We did indeed! Thank you!
Those fields of bright yellow flowers are amazing. They remind me of the fields of sunflowers I saw in Spain.
Wow I had no idea Sweden had a place like this! It’s absolutely breathtaking! I love flowers, so Spring is my favorite time of year to travel! I guess I need to pencil in Sweden for next year during April! Thanks for the suggestion!
The south is absolutely stunning in spring! How awesome, let me know if you end up going 🙂
I have never been to Sweden, but your blog post makes me want to go. I love the rapeseed fields and it would be amazing to see this in my future travel. Thank you so much for sharing the exact location of this. I am going to save this post for the future 🙂
Thanks Christina! I hope you do make it to Sweden one day 🙂
